Our Story

Who We Are
The Cord Foundation a 501(c)(3), was born from the challenges our family faced during our perinatal and postpartum journeys —an experience marked by unexpected hardships that reshaped our understanding of perinatal health. For our family, perinatal care that did not listen with intention to the needs of Crystal, was just the beginning of severe postpartum outcomes. Outcomes that paint a broader reality for people who give birth and their children. And despite significant investment in healthcare spaces generally, many stones remain unturned when it comes to addressing the most severe outcomes for women and their families.
Inspired by our perinatal story, which includes birth trauma, postpartum psychosis and recovery, The Cord Foundation was created.
Awareness
Empowering Through Stories
Sharing stories about pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum can truly change lives. We aim to connect and empower people through those stories. The power that history offers us, is that we have the ability to learn from the successes and mistakes of others. When we share stories from a place of humility, with a communal mindset, doors open and we become stronger as a society.
Resources
Improving Well-being
Improving access to life changing resouces is a key priority for us. We work to provide connections to medical assistance, health education, and support programs to promote well-being and ensure communities have access to essential perinatal services.

We aim to offer scholarships, educational workshops, and learning resources to empower individuals and enhance their personal and professional growth.
Advocacy
Building an environment of care
The spectrum of care and good health outcomes for new parents depends on an ecosystem that supports them through the good, the bad, and the ugly. The Cord Foundation advocates for more perinatal care resources for the birthing parent and support for families in the postpartum stage. As part of its awareness campaign around challenges like postpartum psychosis, traumatic birth experiences in hospitals, and much more. The Cord Foundation is advocating to the Massachusetts legislature for more postpartum screening, sooner and legislation that names the condition and extends grace to birthing parents who have suffered from it.
